SAT/ACT & TSI

SAT and ACT

SAT and ACT are standardized tests used for college admissions in the United States. The SAT is an aptitude test that measures critical thinking and problem solving in Reading, Math and Writing.

The ACT is an achievement test measuring what a student has learned in school in four content areas: English, Math, Reading, and Science.

Both the SAT and the ACT have an optional Essay section.

It is highly recommended that students take both exams during the second semester of their Junior year.

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI)

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requires students to be assessed in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics prior to enrolling at a Texas public college or university.  The assessment is designed to identify whether students are prepared for the rigors of undergraduate coursework.  Therefore, high school students must pass the TSI before enrolling in dual credit courses.  TSI results also help students, teachers, and counselors tailor a program to assist students in becoming better prepared for college-level courses.
